Back in 2016, I started mentioning to my wife, “What if I started wearing a work uniform?” I was thinking about how Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg would wear the same outfit every day. By probably the 8th time I brought this up, she decided it was a good idea and bought me five of the same outfit. At the time, I was just tired of not having my clothes match because of being color blind. There are a lot of other benefits as well. So why do I wear the same outfit every day?
#4 – One less decision
What to wear used to be one of the first decisions of my day. Since I’m not into fashion, it was also a decision I struggled with. Why start my day off like this. Now I don’t have to make any decision. I just rely on my wife’s good decision back in 2016.
#3 – Look good and feel good
Back when I dressed normally, I had a number of pairs of slacks and shirts that either didn’t look great or didn’t fit well. I’m too cheap to just throw them out so I regrettably wore them still. I think that affects a person. Now, I wear the same comfortable outfit each day that looks pretty good.
#2 – Easier to be recognized
When I go to public gatherings wearing my uniform, it makes it so easy for people to recognize you. Since I’m usually the money guy at any event, if someone needs to give me a donation or request a check, they can spot me quickly in a crowd.
#1 – It’s cheap!
Back when I dressed normal, I had probably eight pairs of slacks, a dozen or more dress shirts, and a couple dozen ties. Now I have five dress shirts and five pairs of slacks. My wife is never tempted to buy me a new shirt or slacks to add to the collection. I’ve only had to replace my work pants once over the last eight years so I just watched for a deal.
