My first impression of Odoo…I’m intrigued. A few months ago, I tried another Open Source accounting software (GnuCash). They had a very different approach where they created a downloadable free accounting software. It was one-size-fits-all and very limited in my opinion. GnuCash is Open Source but cloud-based and…not free. Here is what I like so far:
- Customizable: Odoo and dozens of modules/apps you could add. I chose accounting, but you could include inventory, payroll, CRM, POS, and much more. For a nonprofit, I’m hoping that their modules will fit our needs.
- Cheap: The cost might be free if you only need accounting. It looks like if you add more modules (like payroll), the price goes up to $30/month. Not bad in my opinion.
- Customer Focus: With many Open Source applications, they seem to be focused on the community of developers. This usually puts more of the burden on the user to figure things out on their own. Odoo has a guided tour and a template for nonprofits. It even created a website for my nonprofit within minutes.
