Episode 10: Putting PcMars to the Test

I put PcMars to the test by running some transactions through. I really like PcMars! PcMars seems to have all the features I enjoy about QuickBooks plus some that I didn’t even know I would enjoy. In the video, this was only the second time I used the software, but you are going to see just how easy it is to use.

Features I really like

  • Amount Left: In QuickBooks Desktop, I split a lot of transactions. If you enter the total at the start of check, wouldn’t it be nice if QuickBooks would let you know if the transaction balances automatically? PcMars has a built in count down of Amount Left. Once the amount left says Zero, you know it is balanced.
  • Easy Account Setup: As far as I know, there is know quick way to enter in account names and beginning balances in QuickBooks Desktop. QuickBooks Online does have some features to help make batch edits, but it has always been glitchy. PcMars has it figured out to quickly and easily edit the chart of accounts.
  • Employee/Vendor Setup on One Screen: If you set up a customer or employee in QuickBooks, you have to click across about four screens. I like having just one page where I can see how everything is set up in a glance.
  • Easy to see all Transactions Posted: QuickBooks can make it almost painful to find and edit the details of a transaction. Try counting how many clicks it takes to do this. PcMars has a button on the main screen that lets you see all the transactions that have been posted. You then double click the transaction you want view or edit.

The only thing I didn’t like? I didn’t like that I couldn’t type in the name of an account when entering the transaction. You need to know the number or search through the list. This is a small complaint because you would eventually learn the codes.

PcMars is fantastic software. I’m excited to see the reports.
