The video is short and to the point. I saw the option to download the Desktop App while in QuickBooks Online. I thought they had phased out the app. Turns out, QuickBooks has a new app which seems like a good option. The app feels much more like Desktop version of QuickBooks.
Reasons to Switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online
- Desktop being Discontinued: Intuit is no longer to sell licenses of their Desktop software after September 2024. People can continue to renew it, but this is a sign that some day the Desktop version will no longer be supported.
- Cost: The annual license for the Desktop version is north of $500 for one user. For cheaper software, I recommend going through TechSoup (https://www.techsoup.org/intuit). I couldn’t tell if the cost is $20-42 to renew a license for the 2021 version of QuickBooks Premier for Desktop? I do know the cost for QuickBooks Online is $80/year for five users.
- The Desktop App: The Desktop App for QuickBooks Online feels a lot like the Desktop version. If you struggle with change as most people do, this will help with the transition.
- Online is the Future: As time goes on, the majority of Intuit’s efforts will be towards the Online version. The Online version will have new features, adapt to new reporting requirements and tax law changes, and will have the best customer support. The Desktop version will get minimal attention.
