For many former United Methodist churches, this season of setting the budget and clergy compensation will be different than usual. There won’t be any guidance from the Conference and very few policies to guide them. Here’s some thoughts on the subject.
This is the very first year that there will be churches planning their budgets and related compensation plans as Global Methodist churches. Last week I looked into pension benefits. This week I’m looking into health insurance benefits to hopefully help future Global Methodist churches and their pastors.
The United Methodist pension plan is pretty confusing for most people…even those enrolled in it. I’m not going to explain the acronyms, but I will describe exactly what benefits the church is paying for through their Pension Direct Bill and how the bill is calculated. I think this would be a good overview for a church finance committee or Staff-Pastor Relations Committee.
